Michelin

Michelin is a French tire manufacturer that was founded in 1889 by André and Édouard Michelin. The company produces tires for all types of vehicles, that is to say cars, trucks, motorcycles, planes, civil engineering and agricultural machinery. It is a multinational company and the second largest tire manufacturer in the world.

It was in 1907 that Michelin appeared in North America by purchasing the International Rubber Company. At that time, with its 2,000 employees, Michelin became the fourth largest tire manufacturer in the country. It manufactured tires and inner tubes until 1930, when the economic depression forced it to close its doors. It was in 1950 that the French manufacturer returned to North America, but only in the 1960s did it experience significant growth with the opening of its 12 new factories.

In 1989, Michelin acquired the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company. This transaction propels Michelin to the forefront of tire manufacturers in the world and allows it to benefit from a very large network of brands already firmly anchored in the American market. Even though it has been overtaken by Bridgestone, Michelin remains a leader in the tire field.
