CARREFOUR DU PNEU

Yokohama

Yokohama Tires – is one of the many Japanese industrial companies created following the opening of Japan to the outside world at the end of the 19th century. Founded in 1917, Yokohama Rubber developed in the 1920s thanks to niches found in the Japanese industrial infrastructure which needed innovation. The production of a tire with a metal casing, which entered the market in 1921 and became the basis for the further development of the company, proved to be its greatest success at the time.

1935 is a historic moment in the development of Yokohama Rubber. Indeed, it was at this time that it began to supply tires to the largest Japanese car producers – Nissan and Toyota – thereby becoming one of the most important Japanese companies to manufacture rubber products.

The outbreak of the Second World War encouraged Yokohama Rubber to produce parts for aircraft, which was an unexplored area until now. In 1941, it also began manufacturing auxiliary power units, flexible hoses and tires for the needs of the Japanese army as well as fighter planes for the navy. Despite developments in the field of industrial products and aircraft parts, car tires remain the predominant part of Pneus Yokohama’s activity.
